Sciatica? – Whats that all about?
Sciatica is a name for a set of symptoms. Nerves exit the spine in the low back and travel to everything below the belly button. They run the organs such as bowels and bladder as well as the muscles and legs. If the nerves which travel down the legs are affected it can cause pain, pins and needles or tingling anywhere from the spine to the feet. There are different types of pain depending on which bit is affected.
Mechanical back pain means that there are mechanical stresses causing the problem; this can be anything from flat feet to poor core stability. If the cause is mechanical it is likely that fixing the underlying issue will significantly help.
If the cause is an illness then it will obviously need a totally different approach.
How would I know which one I have got?
Here at the Greenwood Spine Clinic, our Chiropractors, Osteopaths and Physiotherapists are trained to ask the right questions. The tests will pick up mechanical problems, it is usual to write to your GP if we have any doubts at all.
What is the treatment for sciatica?
This hertfordshire Chiropractor, Osteopaths and Physiotherapists tends to strengthen the area with exercises, get stuck joints and tight muscles loosened off and try to work with your body to remove the causes so that you heal yourself. For a very strong young man the treatment would tend to be a lot firmer than for an osteoporotic older lady. Treatment is based on the individual.
This concept is not new.
It is far more important to know what person the disease has than what disease the person has.
